Miele dishwasher troubleshooting

Miele dishwasher problems that cause your dishwasher not to start can be caused by a number of issues. Look at a range of reasons here:

Power supply

Electric complications can be the culprit – with the dishwasher not getting power. This could be related to the incoming power supply, a defective socket, blown fuse, or a damaged power cord. If the circuit breaker has tripped it will need to be put back to the on position. If it trips continuously, you’ll need the help of a qualified engineer.

Door switch

If the door latch switch is faulty the dishwasher won’t turn on as this is a safety feature to prevent the appliance from leaking. The latch holds the door shut communicating to the latch switch that the door is securely sealed.

If the latch is obstructed the switch will be unable to trigger and the dishwasher won’t be able to start. If the latch is broken the door won’t click and will also result in the same scenario. Bear in mind if the child safety latch is set this will also prevent the appliance from starting.

Interior workings

The motor start relay tells your dishwasher to start, so if this component is malfunctioning the dishwasher simply won’t go! The coil portion of the relay should show continuity at all times, if it doesn’t it may need to be replaced.

The thermal fuse can blow if it experiences overheating – this is a safety feature of the control board that prevents fires due to excessive heat. If this fails the control board won’t receive any power causing your dishwasher not to start. A blown thermal fuse will need to be replaced.

The drive motor is the power provider that swishes the water around inside your dishwasher. When this part isn’t working properly there won’t be any water action resulting in your dishwasher is unable to clean, and eventually, your appliance will be prevented from starting. Loud humming noises coming from the motor are the first indication of it failing. The drive motor will need to be expertly repaired or replaced if this is the case.

Control panel

The control panel is similar to a mini-computer that controls the wash cycles and includes all the necessary buttons and settings that ensure your dishwasher works effectively. When your dishwasher won’t start this could indicate a hung cycle problem. This is when the appliance has stopped partway through the programme and is unable to reset or restart properly.

You may be able to manually restart your dishwasher as indicated on the panel, if not you’ll need to call in the professionals. Other issues can be related to the start switch, the selector switches which determine individual wash cycles and settings, or the electric timer control. If connections to the control panel are broken the timer control won’t be able to determine when each wash cycle stops and starts.

On occasion, your dishwasher control panel can become visibly loose or damaged which will need attention. A button that becomes stuck will also cause your dishwasher to become unresponsive, and may cause a light to flash constantly on the control panel itself.

The dishwasher user interface control won’t light up or display information when you press the buttons if it’s experiencing problems. Being unable to select the appropriate cycle options and actually start your dishwasher then becomes impossible. If this part is defective, it’ll need testing and replacing by an experienced service engineer.
