The kitchen is an integral part of any home and it is a space that we all want to get the most out of. In London, it is especially important to maximise your kitchen space and there are hundreds of ways to do so. Luckily for you, we’ve settled on just 7.
1. Use the walls
Install racks and rails along your spare wall-space which can be used to store pots, pans and utensils. If done correctly and with design in mind, this can vastly reduce the amount of clutter in your kitchen.
You can even get handy shelf/rack hybrids that can double up as a book shelf as well as a rail for pots!
2. Use magnets to hang your knives
Knife blocks – the great 21st century space waster. You can buy magnetic knife strips now that allow you to hang your knives from the wall, saving you valuable counter space.
They also look pretty cool when they’re hung up on a wall!
3. Integrated Appliances
Having appliances that fit into cupboard space and allow you to cover them with a cupboard door that matches your kitchen can create the illusion of extra space and give a cleaner look to your kitchen. Our appliance store sells many integrated appliances. Take a look at our range of washing machines and fridge freezers.
4. Work the corners
The corners are often neglected areas of a kitchen and therefore, they have a lot of potential! Installing shelving that adapts to the shape of the corners and utilises the space effectively can provide you with masses of additional storage.
It also provides a focal point for the kitchen which our design friends tell us will create the impression of space, especially if you leave the shelves exposed as seen in the picture.
5. Double up your shelves
Using shelf tidies can help you to effectively double the amount of usable storage in your kitchen shelves by adding an extra layer to cupboards. You can use this for your condiments cupboards or even the cupboards that you use to store your crockery.
Doubling each compartment of your cupboards will create an abundance of space that will be the envy of all your neighbours!
6. Hang cleaning products under the sink
Cleaning sprays are an awkward shape and they take up a lot of space if they are stored in cupboards. But you can use their awkward shape to your advantage by installing a small rail beneath the sink and hanging the bottles from it using their trigger.
This way, you can use the actual ‘floor’ of the cupboard for storing things like sponges, towels and anything you can imagine!
7. Tiered counter-top storage
Sometimes you can’t avoid having to store things on counter surfaces, despite how cluttered this can make them look. A genius way of preventing clutter is to use tiered storage. This can be used for spices, cups and pretty much any other small items.
Despite these shelves actually taking the same space as if you stored the spices back to back in a ‘flat’ manner, the tiered look plays a trick on our minds and creates the illusion of space!
Bonus tip!
One of the other ways that you can make the most of your kitchen space is to consider small or portable kitchen appliances. Take a look at our article about small space appliance solutions.
