Help for Your Leaking Washing Machine

Noticing that you have a leaking washing machine can be a frightening experience.  Knowing just how much water is held in its tub can make almost anyone nervous about the potential of it ending up all over your floor.  However, instead of panicking, there may be some things you can do to try and remedy the problem yourself without first calling in the professionals.  Of course, it is always a good idea to have a service person's phone number handy in case you are not able to fix it or if the problem gets worse.  Fortunately, there are usually solutions for this sort of dilemma that are easy to do yourself.

The first thing to try when you have a leaking washing machine is balancing out your load.  Many times people drop in their laundry without taking care to make sure it is distributed evenly.  This imbalance can interfere with the proper functioning of the internal drum and can either cause the machine to stop working or leak.  Some units are simply more sensitive than others, causing this to occur.  However, it is always a good practice to follow as it puts less wear and tear on the machine and can possibly prevent damage your clothing.

If you have a front-loading washing machine, there might be a different reason for the leak.  One of the most common reasons for this is an ill-fitting door seal.  The seal can obviously be compromised by a crack, but can also be due to basic soap and dirt build-up.  All you need to do is wipe clean the area around the entire door.  Again, this is always a good thing to get in the habit of doing.  You will not only prevent future leaks but will also make sure that residue is not being imparted onto your clothes.

The most obvious fix for either type of unit is making sure that all of the hoses are intact and attached securely and properly.  It goes without saying that if all the connections are not tight that you will most likely end up with water on your floor at some point.  Hoses can come loose through general use and should be looked at and tightened every so often.  Even if you need to replace a hose, it is an easy fix and assessing the problem only takes a few seconds.  Although some repairs do indeed require a professional, it is quite likely that you can fix your leaky washing machine yourself.

Dear Ross, Quite simply.....your company is absolutely brilliant. Not the cheapest price for a new machine admittedly, but a service well worth paying for when the option was dealing with Comets! Repair men and delivery men who show up on time and do a good job; admin people who call back at the earliest opportunity, who have common sense and are capable of a sensible conversation. I thought these qualities had been lost forever. Keep it up and take over the world! Regards, Angela Wilkins
