How to Defrost and Clean A Fridge Freezer

Defrosting and cleaning a fridge freezer is something that many people forget about doing on a regular basis which is why fridge freezer repair may be required. This is unfortunate as it can go a long way in preserving your unit and making it run most effectively.  Granted, it is not necessarily a fun process and requires a bit of planning.  However, it does not need to be done terribly often and the benefits far outweigh any hassle it may cause you in the long run.

First, it is necessary to point out that it will be much easier to defrost your fridge freezer if you do it before it is overtaken with ice not to mention it is essential prior to any fridge repair.  Starting the process when you first see it developing will help keep it at bay and will take much less time.  With that being said, the first thing you must do is empty everything out of the unit.  This is a great time to go through the items and see what is expired and should be tossed out.  Keep only what you really need and put it in the refrigerator if you plan on defrosting immediately. Otherwise, you will have to find another freezer in which to store the food.  Next, you can turn off your freezer via the controls that are usually located in the refrigerator.

It is a good idea to first try and scrape out as much loose ice as you can without hacking into the refrigerator itself.  You need to be cautious and just try to get enough out to allow your defrosting to go a bit faster.  Now you can decide which method you want to use for the actual process itself.  There are typically two methods that people use.  The first takes the longest but involves simply leaving the door to your fridge freezer open.  This goes slowly, so as long as you sop up the water every so often you will prevent leaks from going onto your floor.

The second technique works a bit faster and requires more attention to avoid water spillage.  Just fill up a bowl with boiling water, place it in, and close the door.  Every fifteen minutes or so, you should see if you need to tend to any excess liquid and if you need to add more hot water.  This is a great method if you want to get it done quickly and do not mind tending to it regularly.  Once defrosted, simply take a mixture of baking soda and water and scrub.  You can then wipe it dry and refill your freshly cleaned fridge freezer.

Thank you for a good service. Very impressed. Your engineer, Nick I believe, was professional, polite and seemed to know what he was doing! That can be rare when you call someone out these days. Would definitely use you again.

Really pleased with the service (washing machine repair). The booking process was simple, I appreciated the text confirmation, the engineer turned up on time and did a great job. Would definitely recommend.

An exemplary service. The Domex service engineer, Victor, was professional, polite and efficient. He immediately identified the problem with our washing machine and fixed it conscientiously, explained what he was doing and why and gave us some great maintenance advice. Many thanks Victor! We would definitely use Domex again given the high standard of engineers they employ and recommend them to others.
