Solid plate electric hob has the conventional round metal plate which is simply an open heating element that heats up the object placed on them and thus they are flat and circle like most cooking pans. Repair on this type of electric hobs are replacement of the solid plates/heater control switches and wiring.
Ceramic hobs are very similar to the above with the only difference the heaters are right underneath a ceramic glass with main benefit of quicker heating up phase. Replacement of the ceramic glass surface is one of the most common ceramic hob repair job with heating elements and control switches being equally often.
Induction hobs are the most sophisticated type of electric hobs and therefore most expensive and thus least common, though becoming more popular nowadays with the energy savings and efficiency in mind. Induction hobs have so called induction modules generating magnetic field which produces heat in the pan. These appliances are highly efficient and heat and energy lost are close to zero.
